Clean Up Your Credit Report
Cleaning up your credit report is something that you should make a priority if you are planning on getting a loan or mortgage.
By having a good or great credit report you stand a much better chance of getting good terms on your finance and you may even save yourself the embarrassment of getting rejected for a loan.
But how do you clean up your credit report? There are several steps.
For starter you are going to need to get your hands on a recent credit report from one of the three main consumer reporting agencies. They will give you a free credit report yearly, if you ask for it.
Once you have that, you can start identifying the items on your report that are a problem. You should make a list of each of the items that is not reported accurately or is misleading. These are the areas where you will be able to clean up your credit report.
Under each of the problem credit items, you need to state clearly why the item is inaccurate or misleading and you also should attach copies of any documentary evidence you have that might support your case. This will give your credit dispute a far greater chance of success.
Next, you just need to send off the document you have prepared to the correct consumer reporting agency (ie. the agency that reported the item you are disputing in the first place).
If this all sounds a little laborious, you are right, so you might want to consider getting a credit repair agency to take care of it for you as this could both save you the time and increase you chances of a successful outcome.
After that, the consumer reporting agency will get back to you with the results of your dispute.
And that is basically how you clean up your credit report.
